Thursday 2nd January – walk *** Bourg St. Maurice

Good job we had decided not to go up – we woke up to really hard rain and low visibility down here in Bourg and we couldn’t even see the mountains. It turned to snow at times and there was quite a bit of snow up on the slopes. The others left at the usual time but we had a lie in and read, then had breakfast, went for a swim (60 lengths) and a hamam steam room:) After lunch it faired up and we went for a walk along the river which is only about a 100 metres from the Apartments. We walked through the woods and along the river, took a short cut through the gravel works (luckily closed today so no workmen!) and across the sluice where the water was roaring through!! We followed the road round, past horses and under the funicular. We waited ages to take a photo with the reflection of the funicular in the river but after all that wait we just missed it being perfect! We walked through the station and up into the town where a man was getting around 6 huge blocks of ice out of his van ready to make ice sculptures. We had a bit of a window shop and popped into the patisserie to get a raspberry/myrtle cake to eat on the way back:) Back to the apartment where poor old lee had returned because he is feeling very poorly:( He went straight to bed. Simon and Natasha cooked tea.
